I tried the McVeggie burger from McDonald's the other day and it was pretty gross, dry, and nasty. What it lacked was some sort of fat like cheese or mayo or beef lard for example. Granted it probably had a bit of lard in it from being cooked on the same grill as the beefburgers but not nearly enough dammit! A far tastier vegetarian dish are the Vietnamese-style rice paper rolls I made at the condo this weekend. Marinated tofu with mushrooms, snowpeas, beansprouts, carrots and napa cabbage. I made 3 dipping sauces too, hot mustard, yellow curry and spicy ginger, pretty damn tasty if I do say so myself. The only thing that was lacking was some sort of fresh herb, I think mint is traditional (according to my sister) but even cilantro or parsley would be good. This is an insanely good, and filling, vegetarian meal, yum.
Now all I need to learn how to make is a really really good bowl of PHO, hooah! We had lime leaves at work the other day and they're so damn good in Pho, like lemongrass but limey. I'll just have to scope out a good place in TO when I go back and bully the cook into teaching me how to make it.
